Re: Gas Works Staff

I may be wrong, but I think the Pub in the second picture could well be The Bulverhythe. It looks very similar to the Public Bar entrance that was on the corner of Bulverhythe Road

Re: Grove Farm Cottages

Once again it is a vague memory but I believe these were destroyed in order to build Wishing Tree reservoir and divert Crowhurst Road around it. I was at Grove School at the time and seem to remember this happening. I walked down Crowhurst Road and remember seeing the then derelict cottages standing...

Re: Bicycle Magician

Yes we used to call him "Corkie" as well. I couldn't remember the name of the dairy. I do indeed remember the Gable Stores and Bells, although we used to use Mr Chambers newsagent in Bulverhythe Road, whom I later did a paper round for. There was also Basil and Ivy Yates tobacconists and s...

Re: Bicycle Magician

Glad I could help out. God knows where I dragged his name up from. Our milkman was Mr Cork who lived in Arnside Road, off Bulverhythe Road. But I do remember your shop. My Mother used to drag me up to get my haircut in Mr Lemon's shop near Abbey Drive, so we would have walked past it many times. I w...

Re: Bicycle Magician

Hi Derek, This may be totally wrong but the name Bennett is springing to mind. I used to live in Bulverhythe Road in the 60s and 70s and have a vague memory of this shop. I ran in there once to report a gorse fire on the hill on on other side of the road to the dump, that would have been in the late...

Re: Pub memories

The Pied Piper was renamed The Manor, but I can't remember exactly when, guessing at the 80's/90's. The Manor has now closed and was at the junction of St Mary's Road and Manor Road

Re: hastings pier fire

So so sad, yet another nail in the Hastings coffin. I really hope that it can be rebuilt, but I think we have to face up to the glaring fact that Hastings Council have a totally awful history of not getting behind things that really matter for the town. The whole vibe of the town will change with th...

Re: Pub memories

Mammouth task ahead for you David! When I get a chance I will try to jot down my memories in a Word file and send them to you, it's hard to remember my memories!
