Re: Grammar School Football (Scratch Sixes)

At the 'new' school there were two areas called the upper and lower flat, so I would think this term was carried over from the 'old' school. You are correct and not dreaming.

Re: Guess who?

It was a walking ice cream salesman operating on Hastings beach in the 1960's. He used to carry a large white box (presumably insulated) and would spend hours on a sunny day shouting those words to attract custom. I've no idea if he was employed by someone or running his own business. We used to see...

Guess who?

"They're lovely! They're nice! Plain or choc!"

If you recognise these words from days gone by you will know who I'm talking about.

Bayeux Tapestry

If it does come to the UK, what are the chances of it being exhibited anywhere near Hastings or Battle?

White Rock Baths

I was talking about these the other day and came across a bit of a gap in my memory - I can't remember exactly how things worked. I'm sure there are people on here who remember swimming there. You paid at a desk at street level and then turned left or right for either the large or small pool. At the...

Statue

I was on one of my infrequent visits to Hastings today. While walking through the Priory Meadow Centre I noticed that the cricketer statue has gone. The Observer website says that it was hit by a fork-lift truck. Anyone know when it will be back?

Re: Grammar School Football (Scratch Sixes)

They were definitely still going at the 'new' school in Parkstone Road, at least until 1972. I think the scoring method had changed because I only remember credit for goals scored. It was an interesting way of choosing teams. Boys were graded according to ability from 1 to 6, with 1 being the top pl...

Ann Booth

Any info on her whereabouts? She lived in a flat in Western Road, St Leonards in the 1970's. She had brothers called (I think) Peter and David.

Snooker

Does anyone remember the snooker tournament held on the pier in the late 1970s (I think)? I think it was organised by the later lottery winner Mick Maplesden. It featured Jackie Rea doing some trick shots and the players included John Spencer, Doug Mountjoy and Alex Higgins (who made the only centur...

Tiny Burger Building

I seem to remember that it was the entrance to a public gents' at one time, but I could be wrong. Also the area next to the Town Hall at one time was some sort of a bus depot - maybe connected with that?
