A Wilkinson Lieutenant-Comdr.Hartley W., is listed at number 83 P.road West in 1950.According to my Directory there is no Helena Court listed. From "Hastings of Bygone Days" by Henry Cousins, a chapter on Two Well-Known Smuggler's Haunts, 'New England Bank', Bopeep, this old inn which stood on the ground now occupied by West St.Leonards Railway Station.Also mentioned is the Old Woman's Tap (where the Victoria Hotel is now)

What was "The Old Woman's Tap" which was on the site of what is now the Royal Victoria Hotel, and a favourite rendezvous of smugglers.

St.Mathews gardens is not very far from Magdalen Road so it is most likely the same person. Both these addresses are divided into flats. Why not check with the local births and deaths office at Hastings ?.

Kings Motors (Oxford) Ltd. Motorcycles was at 17/19 Norman Road. This is now a supermarket.. Taken from the 1958 Kelly's Directory..

Could this have been the National Children's Home on the West Hill ? this is fairly near The Highlands. One way to confirm this is to ask whether the orphanage looked out towards the sea and towards Eastbourne.
