Re: The EU

Brussels does not control BOE interest rates.
EU rules mean the UK cannot reduce VAT on goods and services below 15%, the standard rate of VAT in the EU. The standard rate of VAT in the UK is 20%, so the government could reduce it by up to 5% today if it wanted.

Re: The EU

The EU never intended to accommodate the wishes and needs, of so many disparate nations. What people do care about is not much of a surprise: The economy, Jobs, Pensions, Tax, Healthcare, Housing. Immigration. You will notice that many of these issues are within the lead competence of Member States,...

Re: The EU

Not sure how all that affects our Brexit negotiations. Demands made by Brussels ahead of Brexit trade talks are unreasonable and ridiculous, a government source is claiming as the UK prepares to start negotiations. A new Brussels blueprint says the EU will seek to police UK subsidies, impose rules o...

“The economy, stupid”

Boris is now prepared to unleash major capital projects that will stimulate the U.K. economy. The sterling rate on international markets has recently risen as a direct result. That may be all well and good but now flood-damaged communities, starved of funding on a scale sufficient to remedy the dama...

Re: The EU

The CETA trade agreement has been rumbling along among Dutch and Belgian activists since at least 2016. Ceta. like the TTIP is old-school trade agreement where the interests of multinational companies are more important than the people who live in those countries. The member states of the European U...

Re: Reshuffle

Javid didn't last long - 202 days or so. Javid's rules to maintain fiscal credibility had been opposed by Cummings, who wanted No.10 more freedom to turn the spending taps on wherever and whenever it liked.‌ Also leaks by Javid's team annoyed Boris and Cummings. It is believed that Cummings himself ...

Reshuffle

Boris Johnson made Sajid Javid an offer he had to refuse - keep your job, but none of the power. Told by the Prime Minister he could keep his job as Chancellor if he sacked his own special advisers, with new ones working from a special unit under the direct control of Dominic Cummings in No 10, Mr J...
