The area around WS station isn't great, but regarding the idea of moving overall i would say go for it, i've met very few people who have been disappointed (and in recent years a LOT of people have relocated to hastings).

Depends what you're looking for.

For quiter, suburban try Silverhill, West St Leonards, The Green (very nice).

Central St Leonards has rough bits but also some very nice housing.

The area around Maze Hill and north/north-west is very nice.

Come to Hastings, you won't regret it after Croydon.

Loads of decent areas: Old Town, Maze Hill, The Green, St Helens, Blacklands, Silverhill, bits of Gensing, Bohemia and West St Leonards very nice. West Hill is up-and-coming.
