Re: H Orchard Butchers Shops

Bread and Dripping /(especially toast), scrumptious. Ask the butcher for a bone, usually free, boil it up to get all the meat (for the Hot Pot) and the juices for dripping . I didn't like the Jelly all that much so tried to avoid it. Another favourite was Bread and Lard Me mam was one of the "T...

Re: Recalled to Life

When I first moved down here in 1984, I purchased a First floor flat on the Seafront and I remember having a BBQ on the Balcony with friends as we watched the St Leonards Carnival go past. What has happened to it?

Re: Where was Victoria Dwellings?

Richard

Thank you for that additional information.

When you say Half a Crown or 2/6d to todays generation, they are not aware of any kind of monetary value, so saying 12.5p gives them that

and Yes, it was just for a visit, no medicine.

Re: Where was Victoria Dwellings?

"Chris in 1066 has some basic information on his website referring to Victoria Dwellings and Terrace" . Richard, thank you for the reference to my site. The one reference to the WATSON is a 'Mr' at 8 Grand Parade, so assume no connection. There are 6 references to Victoria Dwellings: Miss...

Re: Windows 10 first impressions

Kevin

Thanks for your advice.
Earlier today I had virtually decided not to try again with Win10
As you suggest, we have 12months in which to do it
At the moment I am quite happy to plod along with Windows 8

Re: #9 White Rock, Hastings

Hi There Looking at the 1871 census, the infirmary listings were the first on White Rock followed by No 1 etc. The address today of the Yelton Hotel is 1-10 White Rock, Hastings, East Sussex TN34 1JU, so its safe to say No 9 used to stand where the Yelton is today. Not sure if the houses that occupi...

Re: Windows 10 first impressions

I have downloaded windows 10, its installed and then goes to its final stages, but on reaching 30% on the big blue countdown, it stops and says it cannot complete and then takes a long slow process to go back to windows 8. I have never used outlook by the way.
Any ideas or suggestions
