Re: Saxby.
I was brought up in Silverhill in the 50s/60s. My dad was friendly with the Saxbys there. I remember old Mr Saxby (Roly) and his wife. They had several children and grandchildren (who were my generation). Roly was a window cleaner. One or two at least of those grandchildren still live in the area. <...

Re: Any info., required please for research purposes. Roy Hu
Roy Hudson photographed me as a baby, early 1950s. Will try to find photos and if I can find anything out about him I will report back.

Re: Memories from the 1950s. Fact or Imagination?
I remember something that was around in about 1960 so maybe earlier too. A long blue bus thing called the Jollyfish that went along the sea front. It was a series of linked open carriages that children could sit in and I loved it! I also remember from around that time a man with a little monkey who ...

Re: George Street Back in the Sixties
You ought to pay a visit and see how it's changed! I think it's great now. There are some excellent places to eat and it's nice to have more and more places where you can just wander about. But I remember it in the 60s, bought my first pair of jeans there in a man's shop on the south side, for GBP2 ...

Re: Fernbank Maternity Home
I don't have any photos of the place but I was born there in 1952. I remember what it looked like and I believe it was demolished in the 1970s/early 80s. As you drove down Old London Road it was high up on the bank on the right, set back amongst some trees. I think the side you saw was the back or s...

Re: Barton school
I didn't attend Barton School myself but my mother's friend's neice went there. She was a few years older than me and I got her hand-me-downs whether I liked them or not. These were the school uniform items from Hell. I remember a terrible rainhood that had a kind of 'foreign legion' cape thing atta...

Jesse Hack (or Hatch)
What I already know about Jesse Hack/Hatch is that he was either an innkeeper or a farmer. I think he had something to do with Hollington and the building of Battle Road which was a rival for the toll road, Sedlescombe Road North. Does anyone know anything more about him or where his farm (or inn!) ...
