Providence Row was situated in The Bourne Walk or The Bourne which was a no thoroughfare, this area was cleared , in the 30's ?, to make way for the connection to what is now known as Old London Road

My records which go back to 1926 do not show any pub,an Arthur Broocks had a general shop there and then A.Fuller coal merchant some 7 years later, in the 60's it was 3 flats

The pub next to the Mermaid is the Dolphin and this is numbers 11 and 12 Rock-a-Nore

Swaines Passage is so small that it is not on the maps I have, the entrance is from Tackleway and you can reach All Saints by continuing on down through Strongs Passage, to reach the church you would turn left.All the buildings now seem to be of recent construction. So far as I know St. Clements church is in the Old Town, on the corner of Croft Road and Swan Terrace

This address is the Lord Nelson Public House better known perhaps as the "Nellie" and much used by the local fishermen. You could say that it is on the corner of The Bourne and Rock-a Nore Road.
