I was at the RESH between 1957 and 1963 and only ever knew Dr Bhattacharyya, plenty of other housemen but cannot recall any other Indian Doctors. I recall that he was rather a nice doctor but as nurses we didn't really have too much to do with them apart from rounds, surgical emergencies and the like.

As far as I can remember the doctors had their own quarters in what was then known as The Maids' Home. This was the building next to the Nurses Home. I seem to remember an illegal visit from the Nurses Home but cannot recall any of the Junior Doctors who were there.

Swimming in White Rock Baths. As one went into the cubicle on the 'dry side' the door was shut and a seat was pulled across the door so keeping anybody out from the 'dry side'. After getting into swimming togs the door opened to poolside and then it was a case of remembering just where your cubicle ...

I was at school in Hastings during the early 1950's and there were definitely regular siren warnings....I remember them well, as our dog at the time, used to howl along with the siren making a terrible noise....he wouldn't stop until the siren did.
