Re: Bottle Alley is not a great place to walk along

Well, it is now early April 2016 and, apart from a bit of patching and painting white, I see little in Bottle Alley, apart from some of the bottle-glass panels looking a bit cleaner. No new lighting, just the dire-looking old stuff with corroded metal surrounds, and yet here we are approaching the ...

Re: 8 weeks and counting down

MJ I think most of the money went on the basic groundwork. I would like to have seen an exact copy of the curvy building at the front Pier to balance it up again, plus a repaired landing-stage for pleasure boats. The Pier is a charity now and any further money can be used according to local wishes....

Re: Declining live music in Hastings/St L.

Yesterday (Sunday 6th March) you had King Size Slim playing in the Jenny, Lianne Caroll playing in Porters, 1066 Rockit Men in the Trader, another band playing in The Royal Standard as well as Dr Savage performing in the Albion. Hardly a music scene on the decline. I got talking to a couple of day t...

Re: Any Old Iron

Just found out that it is Sothern Water who are responsible, so let's see if they will do more than a basic repair job, unlikely perhaps. Some like the Industrial Architecture of a massive iron pipe on the beach but since tourists seem to think it is a sewer pipe it can't be good for business and t...

Re: Street opinions: Cornwallis Gardens, Warrior Sq and other?

I moved to st Leonards from sw London and couldn't be happier. The kenilworth rd/'seven streets' area has lots of rented flats, and that's why it has a bit of a reputation. However I've lived here for over a year and I've seen nothing particularly untoward. Locals moan a bit about crime/drugs etc b...

Re: Moving to St Leonards

Moved here from Yorkshire 5 yrs ago and love the place,it has its issues like most towns but by and large is a good place to live,it has some strange festivals and stuff but thats what makes its different, wouldn't want to live anywhere else now. Spot on there Roy, can't see ourselves leaving Hastin...

Re: Moving to St Leonards

Good post MJ.....wife spent the first 12 years of her life in Rotherhithe the next 10 in Lewisham...it's paradise down here compared to what it was like up there (she finds it amusing when types from places like Tunbridge Wells & Sevenoaks moan that its rough down here)...though like the Old Tow...

Re: Rat Runs?

It would be an odd rat run as it only avoids a few hundred yards of Priory Road. It is of course a direct legitimate route from the junction of Old London Road. Even if it were used it is a reasonably wide road. I was looking at street directory of the road last week for the late 60s, it was upmark...

Re: Rat Runs?

In peak periods drivers often find short-cuts to avoid congestion. These roads then become 'rat-runs' as vehicles often shoot very quickly along them. Traffic-calming measures may then be necessary or a speed-camera perhaps. Agree Richard, however quite often the rat run ends up becoming a slower r...
