Re: No permits for new residents??!

Just thought I'd share for the benefit of other new arrivals that there really is a 4 month waiting list for spaces in the White Rock area. I had to pay the council nearly £200 for a 3 month permit for use of any/all of the municipal carparks - in hopes of finding a space within walking distance of ...

Re: No permits for new residents??!

Thanks. I've got that. I was trying to arrange for the space in time for my move but of course that needs proof of residence I can't generate until I've moved in, made the changes and had the updated documents back in the post -that means around 2 weeks of finding somewhere to keep the car. So I cal...

No permits for new residents??!

I need to verify this after what felt like a council experience of the 3rd kind: Is it a truth universally acknowledged that not all residents can obtain a resident parking permit? Maybe someone was just in a bit of a mood and fobbed me off because they could? I'm moving to White Rock and have had i...

Re: I'm coming!

Seriously? I've been thinking about nothing else since I found 'my' place. I find the idea of arriving and sitting on 50 boxes of books without a plan scarier. Different strokes. Oh well, I'll take my questions to the Local Traders section, where it belongs anyway. - Just make sure you don't look in...

Re: I'm coming!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've already been looking at the listings here on the site and will definitely make use of this excellent resource. Looks like I'll move to White Rock in early September now so roof and fireplace/chimney checks are top of the list. And if anyone can recommend a reall...

I'm coming!

Right, it's happening. Come September I'll be a proper Hastings citizen. Hurrah! I can hardly wait. Expect to be bombarded with questions and requests for recommendations. Off the top of my head: a reliable roofer, a chimney sweep, a really good carpenter who could also design something, and eventua...

Re: You know you want it

Is it me or is there no farmers market type thing? I saw the baker at Thursday market but he was pretty much alone. Hastings is surrounded by farmland and all along the A21 are the fruit stalls. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could entice them to come to town once a week?

Re: Slow housing market

The estate agents down here are dire! And I've personally experienced most of them, the independents and all the high street ones. I was trying to move here from london from 2013 and had two properties fall through before I finally managed to secure a home - 18 months later! Just thought I'd add my...

Newbie Hello

Thought I'd say hello to the forumers: I'm in the final stages of buying my house here and can't wait to move to Hastings for good. Yes, I am the dreaded species, Londoner (not native though, just long term) moving to the coast. Sorry. I hope to become a proper local though over the coming decades. ...
