Re: The Green Ore

The Green at Ore! Yes, if you look at my web site richardpollard.co.uk you will see the history of that piece of ground that was placed into the local Councils hands to look after, BUT! did they?

Re: Fire at Hastings power station in late 1960's?

I have to say that I can find no evidence what so ever of a fire during the era's of the 1960/70/80/90s till after it closed, (as everyone knows!) when all the stacked tyres inside the empty building were set alight as a deliberate arson attack, the station had closed down years before. I even went ...

Re: church street, ore village

That is quite remarkable as my grandmother who lived in Church Street for many years is listed on the donation sheet you show. Never knew this before, their name was Blackman, and two Blackman families lived in two house in Church Street within a couple of doors of each other. Thanks for inserting t...

Re: Fifty years ago today..

On that day of the explosion I had just passed the place by about 100 yards when the first explosion took place, I was just coming home from work at the time on my old push bike. I immediately stopped and turned round to see a massive plume of smoke rising from a building along with some flames, the...

Re: Former Sainsbury's in Wellington Place

From what I remember from the early 50s onwards was that, the paying point was at the end of the shop with a stout faced lady sitting at a very large brass looking till, whereby you handed over your money along with a piece of paper with the goods written on it and she calculated the amount owing. O...

Re: Provincial Hotel Hastings

Just shown this to a friend of mine who states that this was often used as a meeting establishment for early Trade Union personnel, who would assemble at the Provincial Hotel (and like others mind you) for a couple of days or so and have meetings to discuss work related items etc, and have a general...

Re: Photo Request - Broomgrove Power Station

Hi Maria, Having worked at the Gas Turbine Station for some time I was not so forward thinking at that time to take photographs of the station inside and out, and I am sure that the other workers didn't record the past either in picture form as for most this was just a job.(Full stop). The pictures ...

Re: Carlisle House Boarding Establishment

Yes, this is definitely 18 Cambridge Gardens. In the early 1960's I worked in both sides and know that on each landing there were connecting doors through to each side, but today I am more than sure that these have been removed and bricked up as they are separate buildings now. I can't after all thi...

Re: Dentists at Ore Clinic

Had none of you ever experienced the school dentist at Halton! they I'm sure were the worst dentists in the town, as I clearly remember being dragged there by my mother in the early 1950s whereby the dentist was up a long flight of stairs and greeted (oh no!) by a big nurse that sat you in a separat...

Re: Circle in Cambridge Gardens

Richard - I do believe that the complete answer to M&S toilet smells come from below and as stated in earlier responses, that there is constant movement in the ground all due to the fact that the foundations were poorly laid in the first place, especially with all that added weight of the car pa...
