Re: "Over 70's might be told to stay indoors for 4 months"

Last autumn I had been having appts with my GP and was expecting a home visit on the Friday morning. At the time of the appt the phone rang from the GP to say she was concerned with the last test required and was admitting me to hospital and had arranged for an ambulance to take me in. She said it c...

Re: Hastings Railway History

Thanks for that little bit of Hastings history that had passed me by. At around the same time the companies who owned the turnpike roads into Hastings via the Ridge and St Leonard's via Hollington were in fierce competition to see who would collapse the earliest. Then the two rail companies competed...

Re: Anniversary

Without doubt a formal portrait in the mid 19th C would have been only available to the upper middle class but the mass expansion of the industry in the last quarter allowed many people to have a photo as a special occasion. There were many studios in Hastings all competing for business as is show i...

Re: Anniversary

Photos. The earliest photo I have was taken in 1902- 03 and was the Barnardo's admission record of two brothers of my gran. The next was taken around 1910 . It is interesting because it shows 5 generations of my male line and thus spans just under a century. Readers of the Sussex Family historian re...

Re: Anniversary

Chart. An example. I discovered that my gran had a brother whom I was never told about. He had children and the daughter Margaret, was researching the family at the same time. What is the relationship between me and the children of my great uncle? It is necessary to find the closest direct line ance...

Re: Anniversary

This is useful. Find your direct line ancestor on one side and the other persons direct line on the other and the where they meet on the grid is the description of the person

Re: Tabloid press

Very detailed comment Richard that expanded on my mention of the Daily Mail killers and also Milly Dowler. I also have to agree with cbe mention of Ben Needham and Madeline McCann. The latter parents reasonably well off able to get access to a variety of influential sources. Ben Needham's mum, singl...

Re: Tabloid press

Quite typically, cbe has nothing to add to a serious issue of debate, that of the wilful bias of British tabloid press (As far as I am aware the similar European tabloid do not engage in the same type of journalism) In the absence of anything to say, they finger the person who wishes to expose wrong...

Re: Tabloid press

No sidetracks from me cbe, unless you can see something that no one else can. You claimed 'red herrings', yet failed entirely to identify what particular thing in your view constituted use of that description. So specifically please identify the alleged red herrings and side tracks you erroneously b...
