Netherwood House

Hi all.

I’m looking for information on Netherwood House, a boarding house up to the 1960s on the Ridge. It’s most famous as the place in which Aleistair Crowley ended his days. What I’m after is the name of the architect. And any pictures featuring the house gardens etc.

Many thanks

Re: Happy Christmas!

Hi Seahermit. Merry Christmas and a Happy Mew Year to all! I too would welcome more visitors and contributors to this long standing site. Over the years it’s been a connection for me to a huge source of local knowledge and history. Peoples voices, memories and thoughts matter. Sometimes the smallest...

Re: 124 Old London Road

Hi Whiffler. Thank you for the image and map link. Well the sketch has really got me thinking. When I first saw it I figured that the big white building on the right was the old convent building before they added the chapel. But I see now why you believe it may be Halton House and therefore the two ...

Re: 124 Old London Road

Hi Whiffler.

Thank you so much for your response. Great, so the house was called Clarence Villa! That gives me more to go on! Were you too young to remember anything about it?

124 Old London Road

Good morning everyone. Does anyone out there have any photos or memories of the fairly substantial house which stood at 124 Old London Road. It is now the site of the petrol station. The house was the home of eminent Victorian photographer J H Blomfield. It was demolished in 1963/4. Thank you. Felic...

Re: Bohemia Road House Re-numbering

Hi Pollyanna. This is absolutely fascinating stuff! Who was this chap Charles Clark? I’m just wondering whether this information might have been for the houses closer to Silverhill junction as the pictured terrace and that on the opposite side have few semi detached houses. What do you think? Felicity

Aerial Photos

Hi all.

About 10 years ago some legend posted on this forum several aerial pictures of Hastings and its environs from around 1980s early 1990s.

I can’t find them in the photo archives. One in particular featured St Helens Woods. I’d love to see it again.

Thanks so much.
