Spuds you don't like

As opposed to "Spud U Like"! (Whatever happened to them? Are they still around?). I bought some baking potatos this evening from Morrisons - "kippers and mash" is one of my favourite meals (also quick and easy), but the spuds from Morrisons over the last few weeks have been absol...

Re: Postal delivery services

The DHL service sounds inexcusable. Again, computers should make mass deliveries to multiple customers easy to organise and control - why is it that the opposite happens? Postal deliveries for instance are less efficient, less frequent and less reliable than in Victorian times! Even the memories of ...

Re: Postal delivery services

These days, the technology should make it very easy to warn people by text, ahead of an approaching delivery, even on a simple keypad mobile: "your parcel will be delivered this morning" etc. Nothing like that seems to happen. And you hear of parcels thrown over fences, people living on ma...

Re: Postal delivery services

Deliveries have long been a source of great hassle - I think most firms are probably as bad as each other. I don't think anything delivered to me in the last few years has been preceded by a predicted delivery time - sometimes you can download a tracking app, if you wish to be bombarded by updating ...

Re: At last - Wetherspoons

I do agree that in Hastings centre it is quite difficult to find really good quality food outlets. An exception might be the White Rock Hotel - I had a beautiful roast-duck meal there, in spotless surroundings. In the Old Town of course there are several really nice restaurants, one of my favourites...

Re: Funding boost for Hastings

There have always been systems in place for the auditing of local authority accounts ("Public Auditor" or some other body?) - but over many years I don't remember any mentions of auditors making public pronouncements about local authority finances. The general public never hear half of it....

Re: Funding boost for Hastings

The source of the funding is not the issue, nor what conditions are attached. If the Government decides to dish out some financial help to a deprived town - good. It is where the money ends up which is the problem. The supposed controls and oversights are not effective and much of the money disappea...

Re: At last - Wetherspoons

No, I don't think there is any evidence that many food outlets in Hastings are "appalling" - a strong word. It's like anywhere else - the usual mediocre cafes/restaurants of course, but often those places don't do well or don't last very long. In contrast, several restaurants on the seafro...

Re: At last - Wetherspoons

The pub scene is strange, not as it used to be. As I said, Wetherspoons in Hastings doesn't really have much atmosphere and the tables are so spaced out that it seems half-empty and unfriendly. Yates seems to be struggling to attract many customers. I think a lot of people have simply got out of the...

Re: Old pictures of Warrior Square

It is obvious that, whilst maintaining authenticity as far as possible, concessions have to be made for the sake of modern regulations, safety requirements etc. .. as UncleB pointed out.

Common sense has to apply. Some people have it, others don't seem to ..!
