Re: Bottle Alley is not a great place to walk along
The last time we walked along there was a year ago (it was in the daytime)
and there was a gang of down-and-outs (is that term allowed?) down there and a
couple of police officers were talking to them. I certainly wouldn't walk down there
at night

Re: Lost at sea
Gerry many thanks indeed. Will look further into these - certain that the third item is mine. My Frederick's wife was indeed called Kate AND there was a wedding in the family (his sister Ellen to Thomas Gasson) in July 1903 - be sure your sins will find you out. We come down to Hastings most years b...

Hi Gerry, thanks for taking an interest in this for me. I am afraid

Lost at sea
Looking for suggestions as to how to proceed. According to family stories my ancestor Edward Adams (bn 1813 at Providence Row) went out fishing with his father Frederick George Adams (in about 1923/26). The boat was wrecked, Edward was never seen again, Frederick was washed up on the beach where he ...

Re: More old Hastings photos
Geoff - looking at item 7 - obviously the first buildings below and to the left of the East Hill Lift are on Tackleway. But what is the block next to that? Is that Scrivens Buildings which I have read about? Always assumed that they were parallel to the beach as are (some) of the current buildings t...

Re: Adams Family
Hello Matthew,
Don't Know if you are still visiting this forum. My gt gt grandfather Robert Adams bn 1810 was brother to your Thomas Adams bn 1813. If I can help you in anyway I would be pleased to do so.

Re: 3 Tamarisk Steps
Many thanks for that Richard. That certainly rings true in that
many of my wife's ancestors were in the fishing industry - a few
have lived just above in Tackleway too

3 Tamarisk Steps
Long time reader, first time poster.
One of my wife's ancestors lived at 3 Tamarisk Steps
in 1891.
I have been up and down there countless times over
the years but have no idea which door/gate this would
apply to (if any).
Is there anyone out there with old town knowledge who
can advise?
