Re: Creativity you do like

That's just it! The whole point about art/literature/music is that it is largely about communication with other humans - moods, emotions, messages, entertainment, whatever .. if you sit in your garret and paint/write/strum a a song solely for yourself and it never sees the light of day, then ... wha...

Re: Creativity you do like

Yes, the Mona Lisa is over-rated - still very beautiful though and I was captivated when I stood in front of it. There is no doubt in my mind that our "modern art" will be largely regarded by future historians as a bum period in art history. We are good on technology - on aesthetics, taste...

Re: Old pictures of Warrior Square

I was thinking of taking a photo of the building (it looks splendid now, elegant and imposing), but the videos are excellent - beautiful interior. I love the chandeliers and the artworks, you could charge for a tour of those alone!

Re: Eating Out

Not a great loss, that one. Yet sad and strange - they are in a prime location, a lot of passing trade to be had, lovely position looking out over the sea, plenty of interior space to create a comfortable atmosphere - yet for years nobody has managed to make the Pig work, attract more than a few des...

Re: Creativity you do like

I assume the painting above is the Titian. Wow! Proper art. Achieved by someone who spent a lifetime honing his skills - instead of a person who spent five minutes at art school and then offered an "unmade bed" to a trendy London exhibition.

Re: Creativity you do like

Someone once wrote that, because the Mona Lisa has been seen by multitudes of voyeurs and tourists, it is no less beautiful for that. True, but there are of course many other outstanding artworks - by Rembrandt, Goya, Titian, Van Gogh, one could list them forever. The Mona Lisa has been subjected to...

Re: Creativity you do like

One could say volumes about the attraction of artworks, in whatever medium! The initial visual impact is only the first thing to happen of course, like noticing an attractive woman .. You have to put in a little effort to really get to know a person, likewise some attempt to appreciate an artist's c...

Re: Creativity you do like

These are the products of my creativity yesterday - I took the photos as mementos of an idyllic sunny afternoon on a shore which I love and find perennially fascinating. But maybe they are also "shouts" - unrestrainable sentiments which had to be expressed, relating to the peace and solitu...

Re: Creativity you do like

I suppose that "The Hay Wain" (not my kind of art but still a splendid work in its own right!) is enjoyed by many people for the sheer visual and nostalgic pleasure it gives. Good luck to them, but I prefer artworks which have more depth of meaning or are challenging, though not necessaril...

Thank you, Richard. Interesting.

A lot of foods are toxic - if you eat too much of them. Even the humble carrot.
