Re: Eco-warriors
I think we should be very sceptical about politicians' claims - there is often a hidden agenda that has nothing to do with ecology, green fuel and the like. When North Sea gas was first discovered, I remember Margaret Thatcher claiming that, "Soon, gas will be so cheap that it will hardly be worth c...

Re: Fifty years ago today..
I remember it because it was the month and year that I left school. Funny how the old grey matter works ain't it?

Re: Fifty years ago today..
I think this must be the huge gas explosion that destroyed two? properties at the Western end of George Street. I remember that it made the front pages of most national newspapers.

Re: Where are all these jobs ?
If we are honest with ourselves, I think we would have to admit that we all have fixed opinions on any given subject, irrespective of age. For most of us, those opinions can be modified by reasoned argument, but probably not by very much. It's rare for someone to do a complete u-turn, for example, f...

Re: Where are all these jobs ?
Couldn't agree more Richard. I'm retired now, but had a long period of unemployment towards the end of my working life. The underlying attitude at Jobcentres is that all claimants are skiving, workshy layabouts. Of course, no one would ever admit to that - they are "helping" people to find work, but...

Re: Wasted Food
I would suspect that it's illegal for supermarkets to pass on outdated food in any way, shape or form. It still seems criminal to waste food though. Maybe they should put it out for the herring gulls and foxes and then they would be less inclined to make a mess of bin bags left in the street. <br><b...

Re: WWII Cinema Tickets
Thanks Richard. The reason why I asked is that my mother kept a diary from 1940 through to early 1942 and she reported "going to the pictures" at least five times a week. Nowadays, at current cinema prices, few people could afford to do that, so it must have been relatively cheaper during wartime.. ...

WWII Cinema Tickets
Does anyone know what the typical price of a cinema ticket would have been during the Second World War in Hastings (or anywhere else, for that matter). My memory of such thing goes back only to the 1950s when I think we paid 1/9d or thereabouts.

Re: Web Cam
Great stuff - even though the webcam will be one more addiction "I must just check to see if anything has changed in the last hour"!
