Re: R. B. Hatfield
Northants1066- I meant to include this in my previous post but forgot: you also mention a ? Mitchell- could this be Ian who lived at the Ironlatch end of Blackman Ave? I understand he sadly died a few years ago with a heart attack. No it is not Ian. I remember him, he was a football referee I belie...

Re: Grove Farm Cottages
When I was at the Grove School (1959-64) there were extensive gardens which students cultivated and several outbuildings which could well have been farm buildings pre war.The school was built mid 50's.

Re: Guess who?
I remember him well. As someone said, particularly on the east side of the pier. It would have been in the 50's about the same time as Biddy and his barrel, which I believe has already been covered elsewhere..

Re: R. B. Hatfield
I remember Bernard and Gregory East, they are twins and same age as me. We attended St Pauls before The Grove. I believe their elder brother was Roger. I was rather shocked to see that The Grove has been demolished as it was only built in the 50's.Any developments on what is happening to the site? T...

Re: These Foolish Things
After walking from Bohemia Road to Crowhurst via Gillsmans Hill we would then walk some of the way back home via the railway line to West St Leonards, not electrified in those days!1950's

Re: The Magic Has Gone!
I certainly remember the Magic Shop, but more for the tricks like stink bombs and itching powder. It was haven for fans of Dennis the Menace. Mr Spray was always very friendly. Sadly like so many streets in Hastings and St Leonards the magic has gone from Bohemia Road forever. In the link submitted ...

Re: Alex Park Aviary
The whole of Alexandra Park was a fantastic place and to some extent still is. Living at the Bohemia Road end we would often play on the steep grassy bit as you enter, great when it snowed. The stream that ran from the reservoir was a great place to build dams, although the "Parkie" would ...

Re: Dump at bottom of Cornfield Terrace
To be honest I expected my comments to be greeted with howls of indignation. So I am pleasantly surprised that on the whole people agree with me. Even on Hastings Online comments there are in favour of the developer. The whole area of Cornfield Terrace and Tower Road and Spring Street was always bei...

Dump at bottom of Cornfield Terrace
When I was in Hastings recently I read in the Observer that a group are protesting that the ramshackle buildings at the corner of Cornfield Terrace and St Peters Road are to be demolished. Are they serious...that place has been an eyesore for over 50 years!! As a kid living in Cornfield Terrace we w...

Re: Pelham Fountain
Not sure if it counts as a fountain but what about the one in Alexandra Park that was bright orange (why was it orange?) and gave much needed refreshment on a hot summers day. Near the Water Pumping station if my memory serves me well...but that was over 50 years ago. That Pumping Station was a sigh...
