Just a quick question. What does everyone think about a new sports complex. You know one with a proper swimming pool and other active sports activities. May be an ice rink.

All we hear recently is that Hastings is becoming fat. Lets have a decent sports facilities to get fit.

ill agree there i mean there is summerfields but i dont go there to far out we need 1 closer to the centre of town or something,

What happened to the plans of building a new complex in White Rock Gardens?

is there an ice rink already in hastings?
if not then i would like to see one built.
i play ice hockey and i know that even though there won't be any teams in that area it would still be nice to be able to skate once in a while!

I'm moving to St Leonards soon (touching wood as I write this) is there a council run gym. I've finally got into the way of keeping myself in shape and would hate for it to all go to seed for the lack of a fitness gym.

There are several Gyms, offering slightly different facilities, in the area.

Summerfields (Freedom Leisure), on Bohemia Road, is the biggest centre, with a 33metre pool divided by a boom, and squash, large sport halls and all sorts of privately run sports clubs which use it.

Falaise (also managed by private company, Freedom Leisure) is the gym with running machines and rowers etc. Membership is required and you will also need to pay for an induction.

Freedom Leisure also manage the Hillcrest School, Rye Road and Helenswood (lower) school, off the roundabout opposite the Conquest Hospital, gyms during the out-of-hours activities. Again you will need membership and an induction.

Bannatynes has a gym within the grounds of the Beauport Park Hotel. I am told it is quite pricey but it has a swimming pool and the equipment is state-of-the art.

Over in St Leonards, on the Ponswood estate, is Zeus, run by Sue, a body builder who is a great personal trainer. She used to be very reasonably priced, but I think she has upgraded her equipment recently, and I haven't seen a tariff.

I think that the Ocean Gym on London Road is still running too.

Harleys, at the bottom of Harley Shute Road, does things like Salsa classes.

Hastings Borough Council has a Sports Development department and they run all sorts of events - from walks around Alexander Park for those recovering from illness, to the "Active Hastings" street sports. Their website is not maintained, and is too general, and the local paper don't advertise their clubs very consistently. The best way to find out what they are up to is to get on a mailing list somehow.

Local vicars also hire out their halls to local people for keep fit classes etc.

Hi Carole,

You may want to correct the nasty grammar in that page. First paragraph of body text reads "with a combined membership of more nearly 1,000". I haven't looked further but I suggest getting it proof read.
