Is Hastings beach safe for dogs to play in?

I'm thinking about getting a dog at some point and was curious about this. I wondered if any dog owners could weigh in their opinions on this.

any dog can run around on the beach areas - more to the point can people who are diabled access the beach and what can be done to make it more accessible for them

Yes, very strange question. Any dog could go in to the sea and get taken out by the tide. So I guess the answer has to be... ultimately no beach is really safe for a dog.

No dogs are allowed on certain sections of the beach from may 1st to end of september,if I had my way dogs would be banned from ALL sections of the beach,they and the pooh can cause blindness and not to mention the chance of being attacked by the dogs,big no no as far as im concerned.

Hi dreamhack,

I have two dogs - and whilst we go on the 'little beach at the end of the car park, the more commercial parts nearer the funfair are dog free zones at certain times of the year. We prefer to go over to Winchelsea beach, where only the most commercial parts are dog free zones. It is also fairly shallow for a good distance - and when the tide is out it is sandy; less places to disguise broken bottles, fishhooks and other rubbish left behind by the non-canine litterers

Please ignore the 'haters' on here; there are more irresponsible drinkers, smokers, picnic'rs and fishermen abandoning their potentially harmful leavings than dogs!

Dogs are allowed on beaches with restrictions, as mentioned.
The minority of dog owners who cause a nuisance should indeed be "hated" if that is what you want to call it and irresponsible drinkers etcetera as well as people who cook food on the beach as the smell can be bad and they often leave the cooking trays and half-cooked charcoal behind.
Anything antisocial should be objected to, within reason, and that is to allow people including 'Technique' to post their own 'pet-hates'.
As for fishermen leaving scraps on the beach - at least it is obvious and mainly restricted to their landing area.

For sure dogs seem to love being on the beach but if they go to the toilet there it can be difficult to make sure the pebbles on the beach are cleaned up afterwards and so it gets the thumbs down from me, much as I like most dogs and take pleasure in seeing them enjoying themselves.

Actually, by fishermen, I meant the ones that cast from the beach and leave behind clumps of knotted line and hooks, rather than commercial ones who do stuff for a living.

I think that if everyone was respectful of each other's space and sensitivities the world would be a much gentler, pleasanter place.

Totally agree! It sounds like you have fantastic set of values that many could learn from.

Are we talking about 'Policing' or appraising the beaches to rate them as safe for dogs?
This is now a joke !! or what are the priorities - surely people come first or are we all subject to the abstruse wishes of dog-owners.
I don't understand the point of the question or its defence by castigating humans who can't even be compared to dogs.
I've never seen hooks on a beach in Hastings, just some lead-weights and line which are trivial and not a concern as they are washed clean and relatively germ-free.

It might be interesting to learn when dogs were first allowed to roam freely on beaches in Hastings, but I bet it wasn't always the case.
