Sacred Heart College, Old London Road

Postby Christine Marsden (Oxley) » Wed Feb 14, 2007 8:36 pm

I went to this convent from age 4 to 14. I am now 65 so a long time ago, but I have very fond memories of this time at school. Can anyone tell me, is the school still there, it was run by nuns in my day, would love to know what became of it.

Has been closed for a number of years now, most of it has been converted into flats, perhaps someone who lives in that area will give you more details..

Many thanks Patrick, I am thinking of visiting Hastings some time in the near future, I had a very happy childhood there, but will probably be devastated at the changes, no where stays the same does it. I lived in Winchelsea Road, Ore. It was very kind of you to answer my query, much appreciated.

This,I believe was once the home of Marianne North,Victorian traveller and flower painter whose collection of paintings is at Kew Gardens..Her father was MP for Hastings..It became a Convent of Our Lady of Missions and in the 1950's part of it became the Sacred Heart RC Primary School
