The Mount School

Postby nancy_lewis » Tue Mar 16, 2010 2:38 pm

I am looking for information about The Mount School in St Leonard's on Sea. I have a book signed by the headmaster H.J. Graham, M.A., dated Easter 1890, and I wonder if the school is still in existence? Thank you for any assistance.

'The Mount' is situated in St.Leonards-on-Sea, near Archery Road,at present all the houses are private but in the 1890's among them was Mount Lodge,a gentlemens school aparently run by the Rev.H.J.Graham..No further information is available on the Rev..it is likely that the school became part of Uplands, which was in Archery Road..In the 1920's it was a hotel_ _ _

Re your post of 2010, the Mount Lodge School, a preparatory school for boyd, moved to Parkstone in Dorset in 1900 and was renamed Dane Court School. The Rev Graham had started taking a few pupils when still a curate in 1867. In 1878 he set up the school in St Leonards. The Rev Graham continued to run the school until 1911 in Parkstone when he was 71. It remained there until 1921 when it moved again. It closed in 1980.

Dear Nancy
I have just found your 2010 message about the Mount Lodge School in St Leonards.
Rev Henry Graham was my Great Grandfather. My mother also spent some of her childhood in St Leonards.
Do you still have the book you mentioned ?
Best regards
Brian Cox
