Sandown School in School Road Ore!

As a kid during the war I went to the old Sandown School and often crossed into Church Road across "The Hollow" (The Olla) Does anyone have a photo of the old school and/or the area. I have a photo of both Hylands and Winbournes shops which I am using in my write up of stories from my life but would really like to include one ot the old school.

I don't have any photos of the school personally although it may be worthwhile emailing (or visiting if you are local) the reference library in Claremont. They are very helpful and may have something of interest. The photos you have of Wimbornes and Hylands may be the ones I placed on the FLICKR website which you are welcome to use. I have several others of Hylands as Charles Hyland who ran the shop was my grandfather and my mother can also be seen in front of the shop in one of the images.

As a kid I lived opposite the Sally Anns and remember Dietriches, Kent's and Ken and Ralph Apps shops so maybe I can fine photos of them also at the library. Christine Haywood has sent me a photo of her dad outside the shop before it was bombed.

I am told that this anti-aircraft gun was in the garden of the house next door to Hylands. Good luck with your task of writing up your memories - I think it is so important that these memories are kept for future generations.

Fantastic, many thanks for that link - brought back many memories of the "Race horses and the Cart Horses" as we used to call the different size guns! Also the droan of the East Kent buses which was so similar to that of Germany aircraft! :w00t:
