Looks like I might want to leave my place a bit earlier if I'm going to have to fight my way through the crowds get to the curry house down George Street on time :P

The bonfire is usually only built the day before.
The 'Effigies', erected on scaffolding, are built at another site and also assembled on the beach, just before the event.
The theme is unknown up until then and attempts to try to find out, from anyone involved, will be treated with frowns of contempt.

Of course the BonFire, etcetera is only built the day before because costly security personnel are needed to prevent 'vandals' from setting fire to it prematurely.
One upon a time a bonfire was built by locals from the Old Town by collecting drift-wood from the beach.
Now it is much more of a commercial event.
