Hi MJ, I hope some bored teenagers don't misinterpret your comment and treat it as an instruction for some spring high jinx!

Looking on from afar, I have to say that it does need some symmetrical balance given that it is an old structure, rather than a modernist tower block that are quite often built off angle.

There will be 24 hour security and fire-systems in place.
What amazes me is the sheer weight of the extremely dense hard-wood decking planks, even a small offcut of wood weighs very heavy in the hand.
I hope it was all from sustainable forests.

The north end of the Pier (onshore) is crossed by a geological feature called the 'White Rock Fault' which runs NE -SW.
The downthrow side of the fault is to the NW and this has been tested and found to be stable.
The overwater section of the Pier is to the SE side of the Fault.
Boreholes were drilled to assess the ground for the piled foundations supporting the new Visitor Centre in the middle of the pier.
I don't think there are many earthquakes or tremors near Hastings but the Fault may be a weak point in the unlikely event of one occurring.

Happy Days !!

Apparently, the funfair rides will be a temporary feature only.

Here's hoping they manage to open in time for the end of April - May Bank Holiday / Jack-In-The-Green etcetera.
They seem to have the long-term catering sorted now, with locally-sourced seafood, local Sussex Ice Cream, plus a new ale available uniquely at the Pier (courtesy of Harveys Brewery).
The company running the catering will be 'Centerplate' which seems altogether better connected with the local community than the original contender, 'Harry Ramsden'.

"Oh joy, Oh rapture Unforeseen".

I noticed elsewhere that someone believed the pier would be opened to the public this Wednesday. Unconfirmed though.

From the Observer...

Hastings Pier is opening to the public tomorrow morning (Wednesday, April 27).
The pier will open initially with a full service bar and restaurant in the newly renovated pavilion building plus a traditional funfair.

The café and roof terrace in the new The Deck at Hastings Pier building will open over the next few days.

A short season of open air film screenings continues the opening, starting on Thursday, May 12 with Re: A Pier the story of the renovation of Hastings Pier, told by film-maker, Archie Lauchlan, followed by Jaws on the Friday and an outdoor screening of Star Wars – the Force Awakens on Saturday, May 14.

The pier will be fully open for the planned gala celebration of the completion of the works on Saturday, May 21 when Madness will headline a day of exploring the musical heritage of the pier following a formal opening ceremony that morning.
