I am hoping to organise this event during the celebrations to mark the 950th anniversary of 1066. The players should be dressed as Normans and Saxons. Can anybody advise me who to contact in this regard.
Best wishes,
Derek Harvey

This sounds like an interesting event. A bit like the Living Chess they used to hold in Alexandra Park. I have a photo of it from 1909...

Regarding who to contact, I would start with the council who could surely point you in the right direction.

Best of luck with it, sounds like a great idea.

I didn't realise the Chess in Hastings probably dates back to the Conquest:

There may be contacts in the following that would know whom to ask regarding the situation in 'Butler's gap'
