Hello Rahat.
sounds like a possible Virus_ _ _
Which operating system are you using?
Windows XP seems prone to this problem after installing updates
Set your first boot device in the Bios to CD-Rom. Insert your Windows XP CD, save the bios settings and exit. Soon "Press any key to boot of CD" will appear on the screen, hit the space bar to continue.
* Now setup will inspect your hardware and software, it then will load various files required for the repair.
Or
You can try turning off at the mains and switching on again, then press the F8 key and wait for the 'dos' screen with option near the top of the to run 'Repair' or 'Restore' to a previous date when it was running ok.
When did this first happen and were you aware of accessing an 'unsafe' site or loading any new software?
I would always try every option to fix it myself first as I don't want a third party computer repair outfit potentially poking about in my private data.
Good Luck !!

Re: Computer Repair
Hi all. Rahat's problem sounds like the computer is overheating to me. Worth a try cleaning out the fans etc to get better cooling.
Re: Computer Repair
Hello Rahat
Without physically being able to test your machine, I'm pretty sure you have a failing power supply. I would suggest you take it in to get tested and replace if needed.
Also check Geoff's suggestion to make sure the fans are not clogged up with dust.

Re: Computer Repair
(also check expansion cards are not loose, ditto all cables - detach all and re-attach.)
IS IT RESTARTING AFTER SHUTDOWN OR SWITCHING ON
We don't know the spec of your computer or operating system:
Click Start, Run and in the box enter:
msinfo32
Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.
Delete personal info., like System Name and User Name, and whatever appears to be private to you.
This will minimize back and forth QandA and eliminate guesswork.

Re: Computer Repair
This is a fairly common complaint in my business, and about 90% of time time the problem is a dying power supply. Just because the fan is spinning doesnt mean the PSU is not failing.
Before making any adjustments to your system I would have this checked first. It is a very quick test and shouldn't cost anything to diagnose. Of course if it fails the tests then you will need to purchase a new one.

Re: Computer Repair
Good to have a computer 'Bod' (KMT) onboard - between us all he might have solved the problem by now !! ??

Thanks for the welcome Richard.
I'm always happy to pass on any knowledge I've accumulated over many years as a computer repair technician. Maybe it would be of interest to have a forum here for such problems?.

Re: Computer Repair
Hi Roy
Things to check
Is it a DVD burner or just CD/DVD combo for only CD-recording? (but not write DVD media)
Have you been able to burn DVD's in the past?
Can you read any other DVD with data on it?
Not all blank media is compatible with all drives. Does the same blank disc work in another burner? try the disk in another computer.
How old is your optical drive? If its an older drive you might be better using a DVD-R (minus sign) as opposed to DVD+R (plus sign)
Sometimes when a drive stops reading a particular type of disk it usually means a fault with the laser. The only option then would be to replace the optical drive. ( theyre cheap enough these days)
Anyway check the above first and please post back if you are able to find anything out.
