Britannia Enterprise Centre

Postby Richard » Mon Dec 26, 2016 2:50 pm

I Still can't find out 'online' which units are up and running at the Britannia Centre, perhaps they change a lot, but it would be nice to know what services are generally available.
I would like to find a blacksmith for a garden gate that needs repairing, but I am not in the area right now - perhaps I will only find out by making a visit in person.

Checkatrade don't list any general Blacksmiths working in Hastings.
I did find this unit, but it looks a bit specialist really:

I happened to walk past this place the other day. Looks very old school but maybe just what you need. Can't vouch for how good they are, and they don't appear to have a website (or anything modern really)... https://www.google.com/maps/place/R.Gre ... d0.5532505

I have now found a 'Blacksmith' unit at Britannia Centre - called 'Over Wrought Forge'.
Two young men run it and are very helpful and friendly, I got my gate-post fixed (welded) straight away and with offers to vist and repair a gate I bought in the old town, as the latch was missing.
The two Blacksmiths are:

Tobias on 0785 446 7438
&
Ben on 0752 831 7910

Just thought I'd mention it as I was very pleased with the quick service and willingness.

Alexandra Park Historic greenhouse restoration:
The two blacksmiths are planning to forge a new future for an historic greenhouse as a community project. Tobias Cobrin and Ben Crosthwaite will restore and repair the cast iron frame of the structure at Alexandra Park, Hastings.
The work will begin in the spring/summer of 2017.
Funding was won from 'Tesco’s Bags of Help' initiative to help turn the 1930s building into a horticultural and educational centre for community use.

Tobias opened the Over Wrought Forge at Britannia Enterprise Centre in Waterworks Road, Hastings, two years ago. He and Ben, blacksmiths who specialise in artistic designs, will do part of the greenhouse work on site and some in their forge.
“We don’t know how long the work will take,” said Ben. “We need to get the upper windows working again, so that will be done on site. We will start numbering the parts and then take them out in sequence. They will be cleaned, painted, re-installed, and then we will take the next batch.”

It is good to see the availability of local, traditional crafts, and community funding, to help restore historic projects in the heart of Hastings.
