The St Leonards pub was okay the last time I went there, full of gimmicky stuff internally but fairly lively.
An old one on Norman road has been revamped but I have not visited it yet.
I think it is called 'Piper' formerly 'Norman Arms'.
It is purported to offer live music?

Few decent places to eat in town at night
Re: Few decent places to eat in town at night
Cannot stand the St Leonard! Loud music and full of shouting poseurs!
I had hopes of the new Piper, but inside the decor is fairly ordinary, slightly spartan even. Not a lot to attract drinkers away from cosier pubs. Anyway, it is closed for now, clearly couldn't get enough trade.

Phew! Strong words for you, Richard! I will check it out sometime. Been looking out for decent places to dive into for half-an-hour, but rather wary or maybe I'm getting too fussy.
Just had a fantastic takeaway from the Chinese place at the top-end of Norman Road - "sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style" + egg-fried rice + fried mushrooms. Looked colourful and was absolutely delicious. As good as any table-served dish.
