You make some good points seahermit,
What worries me is that our abiding concentration on Brexit alone has very much diverted attention away from some important topics that still create issues of national concern:
1. Private Landlord continue to provide woefully inadequate 'slum-housing' in certain deprived areas across the country (some are HMO's Houses of multiple occupation) that Councils are happy to fund in order to fulfill commitments, in the absence of a programme of council-house building/provision by any particular Party, only the private landlords benefit from this.
The idea that any new private housing development provides 'affordable housing units' in its mix, is risible. The cynical 'bait' - that private developers seeking permission to gain planning permission offer - is that they will create affordable housing - affordable to whom?
2. Climate change resulting in flooding has resulted in devastation for some in our farming and rural communities that have not received a forward-thinking planning stance, resulting in misery to thousands.
3. Despite the Tories suggesting new money for Policing, Education and the NHS, there will always be pockets of problems that Corbyn seems more interested in raising (seeing Brexit as a side-issue) and the Tories are still playing 'catch-up' in order to head Labour off.
In short no Party is ahead of the game and we continue to seek blame and retribution.

Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
Where does one start with all the major problems which have been allowed to fester for years? The major parties, the others as well, have indulged in mutual accusations and point-scoring, whilst we have signally lacked a strong government leadership with a good sense of direction. When did political leaders last really "inspire" anyone with visionary ideas? When did you even hear that word being used?!
Re: "slum" housing (HMOs), all the laws have been in place for many years but they are not implemented and landlords can do what they like. Lack of staff and funds at local authority level, lack of "policing", lack of police (but that's another gripe!).
Flood-prevention is merely another example of piecemeal and completely underfunded policies. It is very unlikely that every area of the country can be protected/saved, there will have to be sacrifices as part of a general strategy - but what strategy? Nothing has ever been thought through properly, instead developers are still building new houses on flood plains and other vulnerable areas (there's money in it).

Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
Seahermit. You keep going on about a Revered leader but dont tell us who she is. Is it your Revered Leader? Why are you keeping her a secret in your cult?
Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
No-one believed this guff over 20 years ago but the same tired old suspects keeps churning it out
Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
I suppose, to be fair, there was just as much headline-seeking garbage from the right as from the left, if you bothered to trawl through the archives. But somehow socialists seem to be more prolific with histrionic and emotive demagoguery (if that word exists!) and particularly averse to calm, factually-based statements.
The last-but-one post - is it worth even responding to that comment? I can't believe anyone would write something so stupid ..

Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
Seahermit, you should look in the mirror as it is you who raised the idea of a 'revered leader', not me.
By your own suggestion, that seems to indicate you are stupid. It is necessary to have a little logic before commenting

Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
CBE keeps churning out the same sort of guff without any self reflection. Without knowing the context of the phrases it is impossible to assess the meaning of the writers. A slogan is a slogan but is rarely put up in isolation to other material.
Who put this together and why? What were they intending to influence? Let readers have a little more detail although I doubt the tired old suspects will be prepared to follow through

Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
I quite agree, CBE ... facts, facts, facts! And DETAILS! And unless you spell it out in the absolute simplest of words, what hope is there that someone as dumb as ColinL will get the point of the barb? Or the joke? Or even get the gender right?!
Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
I haven't heard anyone promising to tax the U.S. giants who pay less tax than ordinary people, relatively speaking.
Why hasn't Corbyn promised this if he proclaims he wants to tax the rich?

Re: Corbyn will never be Prime Minister
Perhaps he doesn't want to frighten big business (yet) *sarc*
It always surprises me that 'socialists' like the aforementioned Corbyn and of course McDonnell, never acknowledge that their tax and spend policies are always doomed to end in failure.
Common sense tells you that the more you keep raising the benefits bill you drag more people into the benefits 'catchment' and the day comes when relatively fewer and fewer people are being called upon to pay the taxes to keep the benefits pot topped up. Eventually there is nothing left to tax. Then of course we have the constant Government borrowing leaving the nation even more mired in debt, debt that our grandchildren and their grandchildren will be paying off. Then it hits the buffers and Labour are thrown from office - never changes. The new party comes in - tries to curtail the borrowing and even start to get the deby mountain down and they are accused of 'austerity' . The same tired old charade over and over.
