There have been some departures from the main thread into complex issues - one could go on all night about unemployment, low incomes etc. I have known several (so far as I know) hardworking people in Hastings who chose to carry on working despite a low income but who thought they would have been better off on benefits. Poor wages are part of it, soaring rents and travel costs are other pressures. I know several others who haven't even looked for work for many years! There is a fair amount of work in Hastings but not for the ambitious - not everybody wants a life stuck in a shop or doing menial care work and there is an absence of the skills required for more inspiring careers. It is a complex problem, no easy answers.

Plenty of claptrap here too, much of it noticeably coming from left-leaning advocates. From the sort of people who try to suppress "sexist" or "capitalist" opinions or moan about "personal character assasination" - what they are really mean is that they don't like criticism and plain-speaking, which the right to free speech brings with it.

What is this all about? I don't remember all these kinds of things happening before - has something changed?

You people have not been listening, so Jezza is making his final offer.

A person of your advanced years should know that unicorns don't exist. I know that, as I am sure does Mr Corbyn.

It is neither funny nor adds anything to solve the serious crisis we are in. It is simple; five more years of Johnson ignoring facts such as a photo of a sick boy sleeping under some coats because no trolley available at A&E, the lurching forward to take the reporter's phone so he could not see it. False promises on every subject that fall apart within hours of making them. The alternative is a vision for a more compassionate, cohesive society

Colin - such insight. For once we agree on something, unicorns do not exist, but neither do the possibility Corbyn's 'pledges' coming to fruition. You can promise all sorts when you have zero chance of having to put it into practice.

Several things one could say here. For a start, the "stuffiness" of Colin's reply about unicorns (presumably it was made with a straight face) is funny in itself but also almost unbelievable. Is he unable to recognise ANY kind of joke? Quite sad really.

"The alternative is a vision for a more compassionate cohesive society". That is a perfect example of the idealistic, political claptrap which emanates from all parties to some extent but especially from Corbynistas currently. The words are meaningless, since they could have been uttered by someone of any political shade and convey nothing about the practicalities - how such a vision can be implemented (or afforded), when it will happen, whom will it apply to, the questions are endless ..!

This is of course why many people dismiss politicians as idiots, living in the clouds and quite irrelevant to the everyday difficulties which their constituents are contending with.

Read the manifesto in detail about the ways the policies will be implemented building on various economic/social programmes being successfully pioneered in places such as Preston, that were themselves partly based on schemes in places like Detroit where neighbourhoods were ravaged by firms closing down.

Take off those hate spectacles and come into the real world

'the real world' - 'Jeremy Corbyn's policies' = does not compute, does not compute

Seahermit you refer to the 'everyday difficulties that their constituents are contending with'' but fail to say what they are, and how they could be dealt with, except to dismissively say that it cannot be achieved by labour (using your meaningless word of claptrap. (Claptrap is not a word for debate )
