It's terrible. I've been looking for about 8 months. One job I applied for recently had 120 applicants.

Why not have a look around online and see what jobs are advertised in Hastings area.

Hastings Observer gives a view:

http://www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/news/ ... _1_3331243

Depends what you are looking for:
Hastings Council employs upto 1000 people, I think
'Hastings Direct' is a major employer in Insurance related work
Must be Bus Driver jobs and other, driving related, work

Better still, If you don't want to sit in an Office with all the politics that involves it might be better to set up your own business with a van delivering goods, landscape gardening, painting.
or trying to figure out some service that people want to improve their own business??

There are plenty of places round about (Bexhill, Eastbourne, Brighton) to copy what the locals are making money out of doing 'self-employed' ??

Thanks Richard - that's very helpful. I had a look at the Hastings Insurance website a few days ago.

Also "Saga" will soon become the largest private sector employer in Hastings town. They are purchasing a new office development in the town centre built by the local regeneration company Seaspace.
I understand they will create 800 jobs ??

Hopefully regenerating the Pier will create a large amount of local jobs
