can Skype be used instead of a land line

That's brilliant, thanks. Obviously my knowledge is somewhat out of date! It would be useful to know what other people do, maybe I should chat to some friendly traders ..

One thing I am NOT doing is acquiring one of those privacy numbers (070 prefix). I called one yesterday ( a Brighton woman advertising in the Friday Ad re: some books) and it was very expensive, almost a premium rate. I can't really see the point of privacy numbers - I have never had a load of nuisance calls after advertising a bit of furniture or something!

Just realised you posted a link to a news item about Skype. Very interesting, I'm out of touch, didn't know about the different ways of getting Skype these days - I'll research further.
