Does anyone know when the next version of 'Windows' is due to be released?
I heard rumours about some sort of 'free' issue.
Or what even is the latest version and is it free from 'DOS' as I presume they still boot up via some sort of 'DOS' which still has to be scanned for viruses - or am I much mistaken?

Re: Windows 2015
Not an area I am good at. However I did read that Microsoft intend to move away from producing radically new versions of Windows (which drives people mad and requires them to learn almost a new op. system every few years). Instead, the intention is to concentrate on updating and improving previous versions, building on what users already know. Why on earth did MS not follow that policy years ago?!
Also heard that the next Windows version will be atleast a year from now ..

Re: Windows 2015
Windows 10 is due to be released this summer and will be a free upgrade for most Windows 7 and Windows 8 users (there are some exceptions).
Re: Windows 2015
I'm still on Windows 7 and there's no point in buying 8 if 10 is a free upgrade.
Looking forward to that.

Re: Windows 2015
Ah, then my info was inaccurate, sorry about that.
I have Windows 7, pretty happy with it, even though if I try in the library to open a document I created in Windows 7, the poor old antiquated library computers go into paroxisms. I get lots of messages protesting that the document can't be opened or read and last week all the printers failed completely!
I tried Windows 8, hated the tile business etc. as I gather many others do too.

Bear in mind that an older computer may not have the hardware requirements for upgrading to Windows 10. As I understand it, nearer the time, your computer will report if it is upgradeable (provided you have installed all the latest Windows Updates).

you do need to already be on 7 or 8.
good luck.
