Advice please on steaming films?

Postby moonjiver » Wed Oct 14, 2015 10:28 pm

I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations (or warnings) about streaming from film websites. I've just had a day stuck in bed with a cold! Frustrating for someone like me because I'm quite active, don't have much time for TV (hardly missing much anyway).

But I managed to my great delight to find "Charade" on Youtube - great old thriller which I watched on my smartphone.

Been thinking for a while of subscribing to a site, to catch some old classics, foreign films etc. on either computer or Android. It would be nice if it was all free but Youtube has only a few full-length movies, a lot of other free sites are of course far too risky to go into. I have also found a site called Movie Archives - lot of classic film noir and other serious films.

Does anyone else do this? Any problems with malware etc?

Correction - that last site is called Moving Image Archive. The best of the other popular sites seems at the moment to be Netflix.

Judging by the title I was hoping to see old Steam Trains in action.

Thank you Richard, that's a pretty wonderful list of sites you have given me. I did do some research but it was hard to identify sites which were safe. I only recognise one or two names on that list.

The "free" sites seem to be quite untrustworthy especially where they ask you to download something first to make it all work.

I am sorry, I haven't checked them out yet but there seems to be a catch with most 'free' stuff, like advertising, depends what you are happy with.

Sorry guys, I have had to remove the list. We can't have links to illegal streaming sites. Google will crucify the forum's search rankings.

Hah! I was wondering about the legality aspect .. as well as safety of course.

Sorry if this thread has ended up going down a wrong road! More research needed on my part I think.

No problem Richard or MJ, sorry I had to remove the list.
Completely innocent i'm sure, it's just Google spotting the links that worried me.
