Hastings ice rink
Does anyone know if the old ice rink is still there? I seem to remember it being near or at the same place as "White Rock Baths".
Re: Hastings ice rink
Long since gone, my dear!
Originally opened in 1874, when the promenade was only 10 feet wide, the roof of the underground public baths complex formed part of the parade extension.
There were two baths, and the one furthest from the pier was originally intended as an aquarium, (like Brighton?) but owing to lack of funds it was opened as a small 'baths' opportunity for ladies.
This smaller 'White Rock Baths' was later transformed into the 'Baths' Cinema, which opened in 1913, with seating for over 1,600 people.
It then changed again from Cinema to Ice Rink circa 1979.
Then the Ice Rink closed around 1997.
The much larger 'Baths' are now a BMX Bike and skateboard playground, called 'The Source'.
