Old Town Fire

Postby Geoff » Sun May 25, 2014 12:28 pm

Sad to hear there's been some fire damage to old town properties this morning. Apparently four houses were damaged but nobody was badly injured. The fire brigade have done a great job as usual.

Just been down there (sunday), several buildings are gutted on the upper floors with just the facades and chimney stacks standing. One woman was critically injured jumping from a first floor window. The fire started at about midnight on Saturday.

There was at least one house frontage damaged in George Street which connected through to at least four sea-facing frontages on Pelham Parade, as far as I can make out.
The damaged properties have been declared "unsafe"
Those evacuated were initially taken to the Boat House on Hastings seafront and then transferred to the East Hastings Sea Angling Association.
Hastings Borough Council said those affected will be re-homed.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
