There are lots of coffee shops where you can sit outside in Hastings town. Also in the old town. Not too sure about ones in St. leonards. The ones in the old town are very good for people watching.

Hi, I'm in the long drawn out throes of trying to move to St Leonards and every time I visit the town I stop for a coffe or a vino at a seafront place called Pasta Pasta. They have a couple of tables with chairs and umbrellas where you can sit and watch the world go by, although the traffic's a bit noisy some days. Pasta Pasta is towards the Marina building but nowhere near as far as that.
