Working with kids or young adults

Postby clappers » Tue May 04, 2010 1:48 am

I used to look after kids full time (nanny with some household duties) before I had my own brood but somehow I never got back to it. It was only when I taught English (I have TESOL cert) in orphanages and schools in a developing world during my last two holidays which reminded how much I enjoy being with kids. I know a little Montessory method because I taught my own child at home for one year, but only a little bit.

I am looking for a job in educational setting of some sort, e.g. as a teaching assistant or early learning. I'm also interested in working with young adults with disabilities. I don't have any training in the area but I am willing to go through training and college.

Can anyone suggest a reputable TA level 2 course provider, at college or online (independent study)?

Meanwhile I would like to get experience by doing voluntary work but I am not sure for what kind of groups I could offer myself. I would like to learn new skills there also, whether it be crafts and games or effective communication and personal help for the blind, deaf etc.

Any suggestions for voluntary organisations I could approach?
