I have lived in Hastings for 15 years. Before moving to Hastings I lived in Maidstone and had many friiends there. After living in Hastings for 15 years I find I have no real friends , only aquaintencies, is Hastings such an unfriendly place, or is it me? I used to live next door to a very old lady when I first moved to Hastings, she told me she had been living here for 15 years but she had no friends here. What is wrong with this town?

Re: HASTINGS NOT A FRIENDLY TOWN
it's friendly enough - if you start a conversation most people will be friendly in return and start chatting.
A lot of the small junk/antique shops keep themselves going on the basis that people will drop by and chat for ages and this is as important to most of them than doing business half the time.
The man at the theatrical junk shop near the large cast-iron bridge by the roundabout junction of Elphinstone and the Alexandra park says that he meets people all the time who just stop by for a natter - he sees that as a bonus in a dull day.
Apart from that there are certainly hordes of kids living locally and exchange-trip parties who seem to be in a world of their own.
So the answer is that Hastings is full of variety (if you look around) and I make a point of saying Hello or Good Morning to people out on a stroll or to the street sweeper who is always pleased to pass the time of day. 8)

Bandy.
You need a shared experience.
We had a bearn and through him we have made lots of friends.
I agree it can be difficult to make real friends but you must find summit to do in the town that others do too.
Can you think of anything you like doing and Hastings has a Club or Group or Society you can join?

I've been working as a Postie for just over a year now and still surprised by how many people will say hello and have a chat etc_ _ _ even those who you may possibly cross the road to avoid.

Re: HASTINGS NOT A FRIENDLY TOWN
dog pooh awareness is like smoking awareness
Once upon a time we turned a blind eye - now we are all conscious and intolerant of the offensive nature of said product or combustion !!
I'm more concerned by the loud barking and it seems that Alexandra Park has become a Dog Park - at least in the Summertime !!

I'm told a dog makes a the world a friendlier place (at least for the owner!)
