A recent Shelter report contained this item of a London council forcing a woman to take temporary accommodation in the town. A court case late last year suggested that if a council could not find temp accom in the borough then it should try and locate it reasonably close.
"In one case, a woman made homeless in west London, who was told relocation to Hastings on the south coast would keep her “close to London”, had to make seven-hour round trips back to the capital to take her ill baby to weekly hospital appointments."
Although I am curious about the 7 hour round trip, this type of thing must stop as it cuts off a person from any local connections they have be it family, friends, schools, and in this case a hospital. Although it may solve a problem in West London it does not help Hastings

Housing relocation.
Re: Housing relocation.
This sort of thing has been rife for many years, London councils dumping people who need help into areas with cheaper rents.
The counter-argument is that people who have to move jobs, inside a company relocating them, would face similar disruptions as amatter of course, and therefore why should anyone be concerned either way?
