strange sighting at Battle

wondered if anyone has experienced a strange enclounter in Telham lane in Battle.
My friend was walking in the woods there and heared footsteps behind her, which sound ed as though someone was walking over gravel_ _ _except there is no gravel there.
A dark figure passed her, but she didnt see who it was.
Does anyone have any info or know the history of this place?
