Where to eat / drink' in Hastings/St Leonards ?

Some places seem to get away with serving really poor food to tourists
Local people will know who is OK, but casual visitors will not have any guide
Is it ok to list places to avoid or recommend ?

Yes of course. Feel free to comment about anything you like. That's the whole idea of a forum.

There are loads of good places. A few of my favourites are
For daytime cafes:
Post Office Tea Rooms , Marine Court. St Leonards

The Love Cafe and Little Larder both on Norman's Road in St Leonards
Smith's on Grand Parade in St leonards

Restaurant wise I like
Fortes Pizzereria on Eversfield Place St Leonards
Taj Mahal Western Road (recently crowned best indian restaurant in the UK by the House of Commons)
and Harris Tapas Restaurant on the High Street in the Old Town in Hastings.

and the restaurant at the White Rock Hotel

And of course you have to try fish and chips_ _ _

'White Rock Hote'l sounds expensive generally ?

Fish and Chips = good at 'The Lifeboat' -= chippy across from 'The Lifeboat Station' nearly opposite the Swan (Pedalo) Lake

'Moda' near the newly opened 'Cafe Nero' = good for Sports TV and drinks
Their food is not at all good (IMHO)

As a treat I like Porter's in T.O.T. for their Fish Cakes

"Castle Tandoori", George Street,Old Town,looks gloomy and uninviting
I don't know how it manages to survive as it always seems empty

A Posh-looking restaurant near Debenhams called "Bent's" ??
is empty most times I pass, how does that survive ?

'Cafe des Arts' is not bad for a change - at least it feels relaxing and well run, if a little expensive

Generally speaking the cost of eating out is is not worth it unless a special effort is made on the part of the management to make it stand out above the crowd

The newly opened Turkish restaurant on the corner opposite the computer repair shop is not up to scratch !!

I'd recommend
soupcon in the old town
st clements in st leonards
bay spice on the seafront for curry
cosmo upstairs and downstairs
lathams old town for a treat
dragon bar for lunch
best of all - the chap who does fried fish sandwiches on the stade

I didn't like
azur
black market/black pearl

Daytime:
One Cafe - London Rd, St Leonards
Bullet Cafe - Robertson St, Hastings

Evening:
Taj Mahal - Western Rd, St Leonards

Not tried White Rock food, but coffee and beer is great some nice ales,
great view over the sea front.
cafes-
Pams kitchen sea front -v good+ views +prices
the unwind George st -v good reasonable prices
love cafe -norman rd- v nice bit more expensive
coffee shop on end of George st, high st end -nice snacks and coffee

Bay Spice -good curry gt service etc on sea front nr white rock /pier
Cosmo -town centre overlooks seafront -great chinese- upstairs,not tried downstairs
in general Hastings is great for food and drink generally very well priced,all pockets catered for IMO

White's Seafood and Steak Bar in George Street has been nice on the couple of times I have been there.

Some of the prices in hastings/St Leonards are really good, if you're a bit short of cash.
'Unwind' in the old town serves great fish and chips (and caters for kids) and is the cheapest around.
I also went into a cafe in St Leonards near the station by chance (is the Rd approaching Warrior Square Station called Kings Rd?) which serves basic tea/snacks etc for about half the price of anywhere else (sorry, the name eludes me).
