Mass-production and 'consumerism' all kicked off with the Industrial Revolution in Britain, which massively fueled trade with the rest of the world. Now everyone is fighting over who produces what and consequent trade wars are part of the current Brexit negotiations.
Economies are measured by how well they can sell goods and it's all a huge 'bun-fight' as far as I can see.
Trump does not want trade disadvantages and has hampered Chinese imports and declined carbon footprint initiatives.
It's all a mess and unless the human population stops growing the trend will continue regardless of European initiatives agreed by some other countries.

How do you stop people breeding like rabbits?

Exactly. No country can be wealthy without trade with other markets, cause of much competition and quite a few wars.

And there are too many people. No politician dares to say as much. And we are all living longer, to make it worse. Hmm .. no easy answers.

The easier life and increased leisure-time promised by the advance of technology hasn't happened. Instead, the pace of life has speeded up and become more stressful.

No point in worrying about an uncertain future. Off to the supermarket, then blow the world and head to the pub to grab a sambuca and finish the Times crossword. You have to get your priorities right!

The realisation that no easy solution exist leads me to the same conclusion.
Enjoy it whilst you can!

A 'Sambuca' and the Times puts my mind in the frame of Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster.
Jeeves was the manservant (Valet) to Bertie Wooster, the wealthy and idle young Londoner.
An amusing series of stories, well worth reading for light relief!

I think Jeeves had the right philosophy about what was in the papers - "A little trouble in the Balkans Sir, and someone got bitten by a dog in Little Woodham. Nothing important." (Well, something like that!).

Lovely. Whatever happens, it's all happened before.

Yet another 'Charity' shop, a couple of doors down from 'Peacocks' is about to emerge.
Formerly 'Xanadu Boutique'.

Six Charity shops will soon be competing for trade towards the lower end of Queens road.
