It was Robertson the land developer who leased the former 'America Ground' in Hastings (and later became an M.P.) whom that particular street is named after.
The road frontage along to St. Leonards seems generally ok to me as the view is uncluttered, stocked with flowerbeds and wide open to the deep blue yonder.
I think that 'Azure' and some of the nearby shops seem a little stale but could be revamped fairly easily.
Hastings was awarded GBP2m of government funding in 2009 to improve its seafront. These are called "Sea Change" grants, which aim to boost regeneration in coastal resorts through culture and heritage.
The money was reserved for a piazza, performance space and cultural community centre on the Stade, in Hastings Old Town.
Since St. Leonards is administered by Hastings Council these days so perhaps it is seen as a lower priority?
For St. Leonards there is a West Marina 'social hub' idea to create 'The Lido', a project intended to turn West St Leonards old West Marina seafront into a complex of bars, restaurants and water sports.
As mentioned, with the Pier finally coming onstream again soon, this will attract a lot of attention and a certain momentum which will doubtless "kick-start" further changes, for better or for worse !!
