John Henry (Jack) King ex Irish Guards and Met Police
John Henry (Jack) King ex Irish Guards and Met Police
I am trying to trace a King family with history in Hastings. In my case it is the sons and grandchildren of my Uncle John Henry King who was born in Belfast circa 1910, served in the Irish Guards during Second World War, was POW and thankfully on completion of his service went on to serve in I believe the Metropolitan Police and settle in Hastings. A very long time ago when my own father was alive we visited one of his sons called Brian. Another son who's name escapes me is meant to have emigrated to Australia at some point. Any help and or advice would be great thank you.
Re: John Henry (Jack) King ex Irish Guards and Met Police
Updates as I find them folks. Further to my last Jack was I believe married twice, his first wife Tess (possibly short for Theresa) sadly passed and they had sons Peter and Brian. Sons could or would be prob late 60's, early 70's now and from what I gather it was Peter who went off to Australia. If you are a King, have family around or in Hastings and perhaps have old photographs or documents and you think that any of this may refer to you, please get in touch. I know its a long time, but still holding out, thank you.

Hi
I did post a reply but cannot see it? Just incase you did not see it here is was I know.
My father was John Anthony King, I have not had contact with him since I was very young and he went to Australia. He was the eldest son of John King and Ann Teressa Buckley. I do know my Grandfather was a policeman and he lived in Hastings. I also know my Grandmother Ann T Buckley (known to us as Nana Rose, as she remarried a man with surname Rose in 1968) died in 1973. My father had brothers Brian, who remained in Hastings and had 2 sons and 1 daughter I believe and Peter King was his youngest brother and he was born in Hastings.
I would very much like to hear from you, with any other information you have on John Senior's father/mother and family in Belfast, as I know nothing about this.
I do have this information from the marriage certificate of John and Ann T Buckley:
Marriage 3rd Feb 1940
John was 22 and Ann was 20. John was listed as a Corporal in Irish Guards based at Wellington Barracks W1.
Address for Ann was 27 West End Lane NW6. Her father listed as Timothy Buckley (deceased) a Coal Miner (above ground).John's father listed as William King Laborer.Witness to marriage were W. Fitzpatrick and B ? O'Donaghue.
Sounds like we might have the same family? Michelle

Re: John Henry (Jack) King ex Irish Guards and Met Police
Hi my Grandfather was called John King (known as Jack) and he had 3 sons John Anthony King (my father) Brian King and Peter King. My parents separated when I was very little and my father John went to Australia for 3 years but did return. Information I know:
Marriage between John King and Ann Teressa Buckley (known as Tess) on 3rd Feb 1940:
Father listed as William King on certificate and he was a General Laborer not listed as deceased.
Witness to marriage were W. Fitzpatrick and B ? O'Donaghue.
John was 22 and Ann was 20. John was listed as a Corporal in Irish Guards based at Wellington Barracks W1.
Address for Ann was 27 West End Lane NW6. Her father listed as Timothy Buckley (deceased) a Coal Miner (above ground).
From my mother I was told Tess married a man called John Rose, I think this might have been after my Grandfather John died. My Grandmother died when I was very young, tragically from a fall downstairs I think. My sister remembers her as a lovely lady.
Brian died a few years ago and I believe my father died around 2007-9, I think Peter is still alive but I have not had contact from anyone since I was very young.
I would love to hear from you as I feel we might have a match here? I know nothing about my Grandfather's parents and siblings and would love to know! Michelle

A few things familiar and some not so, lol. I would be interested to see any info you have on your grandfathers birth certificate, ref place of birth and his parents names, they will tell me quite a bit. It's possible that your grandfather was my fathers brother. Another pointer is your grandfathers military service number if you have it. My grandfather was William King (labourer), living here in Belfast and raising his quite large family, his wife, my grandmother having died quite young.
I can give you a few names, addresses etc from Belfast that might ring bells. If you have unexplained names, addresses, churches, cemeteries, etc send them to me and we'll try and figure it out together.
Think email, which I have pm'd you best way, just leave updates with non private info.
Nice to see this post being responded too, thank you.
