Adams Family

Postby matthew_graham » Sun Jun 15, 2008 6:25 am

I'm searching for descendants of the Adams family. They were a fishing family from Hastings from who I am descended. My great great grandfather was Richard William Adams born on 25th Jan 1866 at 4 Mills Cottages, All Saints. I think he was lost at sea around 1909. His father was Richard Charles Adams and his mother was Mary Ann White. His grandfather was Thomas Adams. They were all fishermen. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about my family.

If you look back to that time you'll find dozens of Adamses in the old town and there's still quite a few about today. I assume you live outside the area or you'd know that.

Actually the same remarks about the Adams family also apply to the White family. The only Adams I ever knew well personally was the late Gracie Adams back in the late 70s/early 80s. She was a wonderful old lady, an unforgetable character and someone I had enormous respect for.

There was an Adams family who I think had a shop at the corner of All Saint's St and a side road leading up to Tackleway in the 1960s. I think it was a grocer. The son Peter born (1951/1952) was at Priory Rd School with me until he left in 1987/8. His nickname was "Dids"

Hello Matthew,
Don't Know if you are still visiting this forum. My gt gt grandfather Robert Adams bn 1810 was brother to your Thomas Adams bn 1813. If I can help you in anyway I would be pleased to do so.
