William Gallop (1780 ish)

Postby janice_barrett » Thu May 12, 2011 12:35 pm

I have been research my family history however I am stuck with he was my 5 x Great Grand father. His Daughter Sarah Gallop married William Nabbs who was a Sail maker and a licensee of the Pilot and Swan Shades. I am struggling to find William Gallops Wife also where they lived in Hastings. I would be very interested in any information about the Gallops around this time.

I lived in Offa Road Ore as a child( 1940's) and seem to remember a Gallop family living there. There was also a link with the Kings who had stables next to the smithy which once stood where the Co-oP store is today. Sorry to be a bit vague on this but can find out more if it would help.

My wife is descended from a James Gallop, born in Ore in 1820. Unfortunately, our family records have no information earlier than that. His eldest son was a William Gallop - perhaps named after his grandfather?

My Grandmother's maiden name is Gallop, her father was a fisherman, and his father before (I believe he had the nick name "Penny Bungus" or "Pungus" for short). I know they lived in the Old town and Ore Village. I'll ask her if she's got any family records or names that might help.

I have a William Gallop born around 1783 in my family tree. I am not related to him, but I am related to his second wife. Information I have is that he was a widower when he married my ancestor, Ann Whiteman Blackman (nee Piddlesden) on 11 August 1847 at Rye Parish Church (although both from Hastings). He was a fisherman. His children from his first marriage with somebody called Mary were were Henry, Elizabeth, Edward, Benjamin, William, George, and Charlotte. He had another child, Mary Ann with my relative. He died on 13.10.1870. Hope that helps.

Hello Janice

There is a baptism at Hastings (St Clements) for a Sarah Gallop in August 1802, daughter of William and Elizabeth. Unfortunately I couldn't find a marriage for a William Gallop to an Elizabeth in Sussex in that time-frame.

There was another couple William Gallop (of All Saints) and Sarah Mann who married at Hastings (St Clements) on 10 December 1799 and there are baptisms for children of a couple William and Sarah Gallop at St Clements :-

George 10 October 1800
Mary 1 July 1803
Elizabeth bap 7 September 1804
Ann 10 Janaury 1806

It is worth considering that the baptism for Sarah in 1802 was recorded incorrectly with a mother's name Elizabeth instead of Sarah. It often happens.

I hope this is of some help.
Best wishes
Caroline

I have a William Gallop on my tree born 1875 to John Gallop and Ann Gawen. William first married Mary Ann Adams B 1786 d1843. married 4/5/1807 All Saints. Hastings. He then married Ann Whiteman Blackman
nee Piddlesden on 11/5/1847 Rye Parish Church. At present he seems to have had 15 children with Mary Ann Adams,
Jan Howman.

Hi I have a James Gallop in my family tree, also dating from 1820. My line is through a few Harry Frederick Gallops. I wonder if you could help me to advance this line further/ ALEXJ
