Hodd Family
Is anyone researching the Hodd family that lived in Ore village. I am particularly interested in ancestor of this family, Richard Hodd who lived at Withyham and appears in the census there of 1840. There is a Richard Hodd in the death indexes for the December Quarter 1853, I wondered if this was him?

Yes, this is the same Richard Hodd. He was involved in the Captain Swing Riots of 1830.

Just seen this. That's him but I think he died in 1865. How did your research into this family go?

Re: Hodd Family
Hello, I have done some research to Richard hodd Withyham 1841 census. On Earl of De La Warr papers it lists him as born 1797 Sussex. I have found a possible on Cuckfield Sussex. If it is him then his father Richard hodd moved into Lewes and aquire another pub the White Heart from his father's estate. So it's possible Richard hodd of Lewes father Robert is the son of Thomas and Mary Medhurst of Withyham.
The Richard hodd who b 1804 and married Susan barthomew his father could be a brother to Robert. Which Richard hodd I do not know at this time but it could all go back to Thomas Hodd. As for Richard hodd death I have found his wife Ann living with her daughter.
I will have to check my records. Hope this is of interest. I would be pleased to talk to anyone researching the family
